Since Belgium is not yet ready for autumn, it’s still sunny in October and doesn’t seem eager to let go of summer. So, for lunch today, I’m planning to prepare a classic club sandwich. We all know that a club sandwich is a simple yet delightful combination of bread, ham, salad, and cheese. I personally find it incredibly delicious and it’s a personal favorite of mine.
However, I must share a special memory with you. I once had a club sandwich at a clubhouse on a golf course, and it was absolutely outstanding. If you appreciate the freshness of salad, tomato, and the crisp sweetness of fresh onions in your sandwich, you will fall in love with this version. What’s more, they included a fried egg, which added a unique touch. It’s incredible how the same ingredients that make up regular sandwiches can be transformed into something so special. I know it might sound unbelievable, but I dare you to give it a try!
Here are some tips to make this sandwich:
- Toast the bread is a must (to make it easy to cut and enhance its deliciousness).
- Spread mayonnaise on every side of the bread, except for the bottom and the top slices. The toasts in between should have mayonnaise spread on both sides.
- Trim the crust from the outside of the toasts for a better taste experience. However, don’t do this until after the sandwish is ready.

Instructions
- Toasted Bread: Start by toasting your bread until it’s golden brown and crispy.
- Prepare the ingredients: Cut the onion into rings, slice the tomato into thin rounds, shape the ham into a neat fit, and ensure the iceberg lettuce is the same size as your toast. Also, fried your egg in well done.
- Lay out your ingredients so they’re easy to assemble.
- Assemble: Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on one side of the first toasted bread slice. Add the ham and cheese, making sure that the toast is fully filled.
- Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on both side of the second toasted bread slice. Add iceberg and the onion on top.
- Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on both side of the third toasted bread slice. Add fried egg.
- Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on both side of the fourth toasted bread slice. Add slices of tomato, Ham and Cheese.
- Add the final layer by placing the last slice of bread on top, with the mayonnaise-side down.
- Optional: Wrapped the plastic filter around it till you need it (or while you are making your fries to eat with the sandwishes).
- Pickles and the sticks: Before cutting the sandwiches, slice the pickles and place a toothpick or a stick on the non-sharp side.
- How to cut: Secure the sandwich with toothpicks. Make sure they’re evenly spaced to help keep the layers together.
- With a sharp knife, carefully cut the sandwich into quarters diagonally, creating four smaller triangle-shaped sandwiches.
- Serve your club sandwich with some pickles, potato chips, or a side salad for a complete meal.
